Winter Music Conference

January 13, 2009

I plan on attending the Winter Music Conference this year. It’s located in Miami and is the Mecca for DJs. Last year over 2,200 DJs performed during the week. This year, WMC will be March 24-28. Those who actually attend the conference (not just the nightly events) will get a free pass to Ultra, the music festival at the end of the week featuring such huge acts as Tiesto and Santogold.

DJ Chil at Express Cottonwood!

April 17, 2008

I will be playing at the Grand (re)opening of the new Cottonwood Express store on Saturday, April 19th. They have decided to combine the men’s and women’s stores into the same location and are celebrating with this grand (re)opening on Saturday. Come on over and do some shopping. It should be a good time. My friend Erik is the manager over there and he has been kind and open minded enough to kick this thing off with a DJ. It should drive in traffic and prove to be a pretty good advertising opportunity for me as well. Come check it out! Saturday, April 19th from noon until five.

Girl Talk

April 16, 2008

As a DJ, you naturally attract certain things into your life. One of them is Vinyl. Right now I gotta say thanks to my boy Anthony Jackson for the hook-up from Jive Records.

Another thing you attract is constant concert talk. As people are coming into town, you constantly get asked if you are going to the latest show or know anything about it. To my peril, I keep getting asked about Girl Talk. Who is girl talk? If you don’t know, check out his wikipedia entry HERE.

Girl Talk has become famous for his insane mashups. In a single track, he is known to sample up to 30 different artists. No artist typically plays for more than 8 seconds or so. I’ve you’ve heard his work, you know it’s absolutely genius. What’s even better, is that when he “performs” in concert, he does nothing more than play his mash-ups right off of his notebook computer. Amazing.

So why is it so perilous that I keep hearing about Girl Talk? Because he is playing for FREE this Saturday right here on UNM’s Campus. Why is this bad? Because I will be playing all day for FREE at the Grand Opening of the new Express store in Cottonwood mall. Oh well. Pitty, pitty me.

Twitter

April 15, 2008

Just got on Twitter. Thought I’d check it out for a while. I’ve searched for friends in Waco (only three pages) and Albuquerque (only ten pages) and so far have found nobody I know. I’ve heard that this is the new thing blowing up so I thought I’d go ahead and check it out. The thing I like most about it is how in the bottom right corner of the home page, you can see how many people you are following and how many people are following you. I think we all hope for a disproportionate percentage here; hoping that we’ll have thousands of followers and just follow our friends. So far I’m even, 0/0.

KXX Night Club

April 10, 2008

Played a set at KXX night club at Route 66 Casiono last thursday night for ladies night. I went on at 8:00 and played till about 9:30, before DJ Quico went on. Had a great time. DJ Quico took over for the rest of the night and we kicked it.

Came back on Saturday night and opened up at 10:00. Had a great time with the crowd! Gotta give it to the band “The Mixx” for getting everybody on the dance floor before hand. I believe I opened up with the Brand New “4 Minutes” By Madonna ft. Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. Was just slightly a little to new for the crowd, but still they stayed on the floor and kept it live for the whole first 45 Minutes. Quico took it over from there. I couldn’t have had more fun.

Played the New Ying Yang Twins Drop Track and got a killer response. That song is blowing up right now.

Serato! Number Keys for Cues

April 10, 2008

Forever since I have gotten my Serato Scratch Live, I have wondered how to set the numbers as que points as depicted in this video:

Forever I would assign a cue point in Scratch Live and I would hit the corresponding number only to have nothing happen (numbers 1-5 are for the left turntable, numbers 6-0 are for the right turntable. Hit them in the sequence as they appear on the screen. On the left turntable the top one is 1 and the bottom one is 5. On the right turntable, the top cue point is 6 and the bottom cue point is 0.)

So I finally called customer support.

Within five minutes I was on the phone with one of their three customer support agents. In less than one minute the talked me through it on the phone.

I couldn’t have been more pleased.

Right now I would say that my two favorite companies for customer support would have to be godaddy.com and Serato’s customer support.

You simply…

4 Minutes

April 7, 2008

This new club banger comes to us from Justin, Madonna and Timbaland. I couldn’t like it more. I absolutely can not believe how Timbaland has been unable to put out nonstop hits since “Sexyback.” The video version has a different intro and outro than the radio single, and I prefer to play the video version in the club. Great track.

Britney- Break The Ice

My Sister Called Me Today and Said To Play This One At My Gig at KXX on Thursday Night.

Ying Yang Twins-Drop

This is without a doubt the new club banger.

Ringtone Rap As Defined By Urban Dictionary

April 3, 2008
1. ringtone rap
the $####y new pop/hip hop that floods the radio. Ringtone rap is any of the singles from non-talented rappers such as d4l, mims, dem franchize boyz, huey and any of the other so-called rappers that all sound alike. Most often heard as tool-ass teenagers’ cellphone ringtones, or on the radio for two weeks every other song. songs like this are the reason i smoke cigarettes.

amber: OmFg GuRLLL I hEaRd DiZz HaWtTt JoInT on DuH RaDiO gUrL iTzZ cAlLeD dIs Iz WhY iM hOt GuRl!!

2. ringtone rap
Rap music made not to sell albums, but to sell ringtones. Can be spotted by the generally stupid-as-$##t nature of the song, which has a five-second repeating beat and about three lines of ‘song’ which is also endlessly repeated. Totally loved by f########s that have no taste in music.

“Yo, dawg! You dig that new Soulja Boy track?”
“F##k no, I don’t listen to ringtone rap!”
